Andy Kohel named Cobbers’ chief men’s football coach
MOORHEAD – Concordia athletic director Rachel Bergeson announced Friday, June 4 that Andy Kohel will be the Cobbers’ new head men’s football coach.
Kohel succeeds Ben Schnewis, who changed positions within the department at the end of April. Kohel was the head coach of Johnson & Wales University in Denver before the school ended all athletic programs in the summer of 2020 and then ceased campus-wide activities this year.
Prior to joining Johnson & Wales, Kohel was Colorado College’s top assistant. At Colorado College, Kohel was responsible for planning training sessions, training defenders, video analysis, scouting, identifying and recruiting players, and coordinating campus visits. .
Additionally, Kohel has been involved in club and Olympic Development Program (ODP) coaching. He is currently the coach of Colorado Rapids Club and has worked with Colorado Rush and FC Green Bay. Kohel participated in the Olympic Development Program in Wisconsin and was the head coach of the 2000 Wisconsin State Boys Team.
Kohel grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, and played college football in Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he was a defenseman for four years. He graduated from Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
