Davis advances to men’s 1,500m final at NCAA championships
EUGENE, ORE. – Illinois Athletics Graduate Student Jon Davis had an impressive evening on the track on the opening day of the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as he qualified for the men’s 1,500m final on Wednesday night at Hayward Field.
Davis finished in 3:37.39 to place first in his run and had the fastest qualifying time of the two runs. With his advancement, Davis earned his second All-America outdoor track and field honor of his career after earning second-team All-America honors as a rookie in the 5k.
The Oakwood, Illinois native will now race for a national championship on Friday, June 10 with the men’s 1500m final scheduled for 8:12 p.m. CT.
Junior Olivia Howel is next for the Illini as she hits the track Thursday, June 9 at 7:46 p.m. CT for the women’s 1,500m semifinals.
