One of Marvel’s most powerful mystical threats, Morgan Le Fay was actually one of Krakoa’s first enemies when he became a new mutant nation – discovering Krakoan’s flowers forming a gateway to the Otherworld, Morgan attacked the Krakoan Gate and effectively declared war on the Witch Race. “
His defeat was a swift victory for Excalibur, but now – following the machinations of the Akkaba clan in the UK and the death of Pete Wisdom – Le Fay has been restored to the land of the living and has apparently turned his full attention. towards mutants.
When Le Fay first faced the Mutants, she was able to prove how dangerous she was by capturing Brian Braddock and briefly corrupting him into his champion, which resulted in Betsy Braddock becoming the new British captain. Alongside the Coven Akabba – a British cult of wizards who revere Morgan and despise mutants – Morgan clashed with the newly assembled Excalibur. Apocalypse ultimately managed to trick Morgan into ascending the Avalon Throne as the prize for a duel between the Braddock siblings which Betsy won. Naming Jamie Braddock the King of Avalon, Apocalypse was able to effectively imprison Morgan le Fay and experiment on her to help him better master magic so he could reach the Underworld.
Although he was taken off the playing field early on, Morgan le Fay’s influence has remained. Coven Akabba operated in opposition to Excalibur and Captain Britain, and in his absence following his impending death during X of swords, succeeded in turning much of the official opinion of Great Britain against Betsy. Rising through the ranks of UK power structures, one of their leaders, Reuben Brosseau, is even able to become UK Ambassador to the UN. This results in the end of the UK’s alliance with Krakoa, which is a big blow to Krakoa globally. Although mutants are not banned from coming to the UK, the gates of Krakoa will be destroyed.
They even announce their intention to try and keep Braddock Lighthouse away from mutants and Captain Britain as it resides on British lands – prompting Rictor to rally any other Druids he can and separate him from the mainland to form a new one. island slightly independent of the Influence of Coven Akabba. But that’s not the last thing the Akabba clan does against Krakoa. They also secretly bring Pete Wisdom back to their meeting place in London and quickly capture him – using him as part of a ritual. Killing Wisdom to take its mutant blood, the Clan is able to imbue the energies of the blood into Morgan le Fay’s elongated body within Avalon. It wakes her up and breaks the chains that held her before, releasing her into the world.
She even has the ability to pass through the gates of Krakoan thanks to the mutant blood of Wisdom, which gives her the ability to completely escape and return to Earth. Morgan returns to the world just in time to see the formation of Braddock Island, which is now the UK’s main gateway to Krakoa – and apparently disappears in a flash of green light. Morgan’s return should be a real concern for the Mutants, especially with the upcoming Inferno. Morgan’s presence could only complicate an already tense time for the mutant population and throw disarray for Krakoa’s few magical defenders – all the while threatening the progress the mutants were trying to make by expanding their connections deeper into the Underworld.
