Military transport vehicle overturns and exits Highway 215 in Menifee – Press Enterprise
A military transport truck overturned on Interstate 215 in Menifee today, driving over an embankment and into the parking lot of a hardware store, injuring at least two people.
The crash happened at around 12:40 p.m. on I-215 southbound, just south of McCall Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said the vehicle was part of a convoy, possibly originating from the United States Marine Corps base, Camp Pendleton, and was carrying a trailer when it got out of control and took off. overflowed from the highway.
The rig came to rest in the Sun City Hardware parking lot, 28250 McCall Blvd., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
There were reports of a fuel spill resulting from the accident, and a hazardous materials crew was dispatched to initiate a cleanup.
Paramedics arrived at the scene within minutes and found two victims, slightly injured. Their identities were not disclosed. The two were taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar in stable condition, according to information gathered at the scene.
The CHP closed the slow lane of I-215 southbound for public safety. A Sigalert was issued at 1:00 p.m. due to the closure and the resulting impacts on traffic.
CHP officers were investigating the accident.
