Semi-trailer knocks down utility pole and closes S military highway at Chesapeake in both directions
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A crash Monday afternoon closed the South Military Highway in Chesapeake in both directions.
The Chesapeake Roads Twitter account tweeted about the crash Monday afternoon at 4:50 p.m. The tweet indicated that the crash happened on Galberry Road and hit a utility pole.
Chesapeake Police say the three-vehicle crash happened around 4:15 p.m.
Police said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on the South Military Highway when it swerved to avoid another vehicle that had pulled out of Galberry Road. The swerving vehicle struck a westbound tractor-trailer on the South Military Highway.
The semi-trailer veered off the road and knocked over a utility pole.
The vehicle that exited Galberry Road left the scene before the officers arrived.
A driver was taken to hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.
Dominion Energy has responded to the scene.
Chesapeake Roads and Chesapeake Police have not given an estimated time to reopen.
At 5:15 p.m., Dominion Energy’s outage map showed that there were only two customers without power at the intersection of Galberry Road and South Military Highway. The estimated time for catering or food was between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
