UMass Men’s Athletics take fifth place at Ocean State Invitational

PROVIDENCE, RI – The University of Massachusetts Men’s Athletics competed in the Ocean State Invitational at Brown on Saturday and posted a team score of 69 to place fifth in the team standings. Dartmouth took first place with a score of 177, followed by Rhode Island (1640, Brown (107) and Bryant (91.5).

Daniel Dubsky won the 400-metre hurdles, running 55.34 seconds to lead the field.

UMass scored three points in the 400 meters as Christopher Matthews won second place with a time of 50.94 seconds, while Sean McKay finished sixth (51.92) and jackson walker took seventh place (53.72).

Mason Miller claimed 4and in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.22 seconds and Matthew Tarantino placed fifth in 16.60 seconds. patrick walch completed the individual markers on the track for the Minutemen, placing eighth in the 100 meters in 11.04 seconds.

Tyler Glendon mark of 21 feet, 5.25 inches earned him second place in the long jump and Miller took eighth place with a jump of 19 feet, 6 inches. Miller also scored in the high jump, finishing sixth after clearing 5-foot-7.

In addition to his final result in the 110-meter hurdles, Tarantino also picked up points for UMass in the high jump (seventh, 5’7″) and the pole vault (fifth, 13’15”).

Tevin Early placed second in discus with a throw of 153’10” and Flynn Mitchell finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 173 feet, 4 inches.

Dubsky’s Minutemen 4×400 meter relay, Mason BentonBernd Matens and Matthews combined for a third-place time of 3 minutes, 24.36 seconds.

UMass returns to action next weekend, splitting the team between the UConn Northeast Challenge on Friday and Saturday April 15-16 and hosting WPI, Boston University, Harvard and Hartford on Saturday April 16.
