UNM Wins 2022-2023 Military Friendly® Top Ten School Designation: UNM Newsroom
The University of New Mexico has again earned the 2022-2023 Military Friendly® Top Ten School designation, ranking 8th among R1 institutions.
Institutional rankings are determined by a combination of methods, including thorough investigation and assessment of the institution’s ability to meet student retention, graduation, placement, loan repayment, persistence and default rates for all students, but more specifically for veteran students.
Ranking number eight positions UNM as a top destination for military-affiliated students in New Mexico and nationwide. The designation demonstrates UNM’s commitment to its Army-affiliated population; it also highlights the UNM Veterans and Military Resource Center (VMRC), which provides services to veterans, serving military personnel and their families.
Led by Director Alonzo Maestas, VMRC is dedicated to providing the highest quality and comprehensive support to affiliated military students.
“We continue to work to ensure that all of our military-affiliated students are prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in their later studies and/or when they enter the workforce,” Maestas said. “VMRC provides comprehensive, high-quality support to student veterans, creating an atmosphere of commitment, respect, and academic excellence.
The Military Friendly® Rating Program was founded in 2003 with a mission to encourage civilian organizations to invest in programs to recruit, retain and advance veterans as employees, entrepreneurs and students. It is owned and operated by VIQTORY, a small business owned by veterans with disabilities. The overall goal is to create civilian opportunities for veterans by creating demand for them in the private sector, thereby improving their lives.
