UT MARTIN MEN’S HOOPS CLOSES NOVEMBER WITH A SATURDAY AFTERNOON VISIT TO WEST KENTUCKY
MARTIN, Tennessee – The first of three consecutive road games for the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team at Martin begins with a showdown on Saturday, Nov. 27 against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at EA Diddle Arena. The tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
This will be the second of four Skyhawks clashes against Conference USA teams in 2021-22 as UT Martin narrowly lost 75-67 at Florida Atlantic on November 19. The Skyhawks also have a round-trip series planned with Middle Tennessee plus the following two weeks (in Murfreesboro on December 1, in Martin on December 11).
UT Martin (3-3) came out of a 103-43 Carver College teardown on Wednesday, seeing six players scoring in double digits. Darius simmons the game’s top, 18 points, led the way while KJ Simon (16), KK Curry (16), Bernie André (13), Josias Morris (12) and Chris Nix (10) also provided double-digit scores for the Skyhawks, who distributed 30 assists (most in a single game since Dec. 10, 2017) and led for almost 38 minutes of clock time.
The key ingredients for UT Martin so far this season have been stingy defense and relentless effort on the glass. The Skyhawks lead the Ohio Valley Conference with a 0.391 defensive baseline percentage, limiting opposition to a tiny 25.8 percent from three-pointers (33 of 128) in the past five games. UT Martin also leads the OVC in rebounds (41.3 carambolas per game), thanks in large part to six different Skyhawks who managed at least 5.0 rebounds per outing.
Western Kentucky (2-3) opened a five-game homestand with an 88-62 triumph over Alabama A&M on Wednesday. In that game, the Hilltoppers shot a record 69.2% (18 of 26, including eight trikes) in the first half to win away. Career-best Sherman Brashear, 18 points off the bench, and Jamarion Sharp’s triple-double, 7-foot-5 center (10 points, 12 rebounds, 10-block school record) in his first start of the campaign 2021-22 guided western Kentucky.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN + as this link along with a link to the live stats is at the top of the webpage.
